When it comes to religious practices I can be a little wishy washy. I do believe in Jesus and everything it just putting into practice all the rules where I fall short. So I have adopted my own version of religion. It is perform a random act of kindness in all opportunities. I think if everyone did this then the world would be a way better place. What brought this to mind you might say? Well an experience at Starbucks did.
I was early to wander in and educate to I decided to stop by at Starbucks. Well me and this gentleman pulled in at the same time right next to each other. Usually when this happens I rush to get out the car so I can order my Cinnamon Dolce Latte first. However today was different. I decided to go a little slower to allow the gentleman to go first. He looked like early 30's dressed in business suit, attractive some would say, and drove a really nice car. He was quite a ways ahead of me when he got to the door. He looked over his shoulder, paused, and held the door open for me. I said thank you and walked in. I allowed him to go first and was paying no attention, I was mesmerized by the pastries. When I went to order my coffee, low and behold it had been payed for by the gentleman before me. I went to thank him and he said, "No thank you. I come here almost every morning and hold the door open for people. You were the first in a long while to say thank you and then let me go ahead of you". I was a little taken back. Then I felt guilty because normal Jesse would have rushed out my car to beat him to the door, and if I could I would have locked him out until my coffee was secure in my hand. So we chatted it up a little and he received his coffee first and then me. He was waiting at the door to hold it open for me. I thought wow this guy is really greatful, and kind. We both got into our cars and he was ready to go before I was but waved at me to go first. I waved goodbye/thank you. This was setting my day off to a great start. Just imagine if everyone went out of their way to be this kind to people. That would be a world where I would be more than happy to live in.
I was in a fantastic mood after the morning's events. And it showed in my subbing. I was on top of things and my lessons were going swimmingly. The class listened and did as they were suppose to do. I haven't had one of these good days in awhile. It reminded me of why I do what I do. Too bad I was only there half a day. With the way things were going that day would have been easy breezy. I did do a lesson on animal adaptation where the kids had to tape their thumbs down and perform various tasks. It was hilarious to see the kids cope without use of their thumbs. Some managed, and some got frustrated. Good times.
Since I was only half a day I had to opportunity to have lunch with an old friend that I met in college. We were on a committee together and he was one of those few people who you get excited to see. I hadn't seen him in over 2 years so it was good seeing him and catching up. I have to admit those old feeling of excitement welled up again. He is a great guy and very smart. He is in the business honors program, which is no small feat. I know I could not have gotten in to that program even if my life depended on it.
After lunch, feeling all bloated, I went to go buy a suit! My first one ever! I was so excited and had no idea what I was in store for. All the trying on and measuring and such. It took longer than I expected but all was not in vain. I found the perfect suit for me. It is a navy blue suit with white pin stripes. Very corporate America meets GQ. I am excited to wear it. I have to wait for the alteration to be done and I pick it up on Friday, just in time for the job fair on Saturday! Yay suit!
The rest of the day was a bum's paradise. I vegged out in front of the tv and watched some Saved By The Bell. I took a nap and then woke for dinner, American Idol, and Big Brother. It was a well deserved rest for a good day's work.
Tomorrow I am wandering over to a brand new school to educate. I am anxious and nervous at the same time. With the Round Rock job fair coming up I need to get out there and get some face time with some potential employers. I think I will wake up early enough to go to Starbucks...
