This week's theme in my 3 year olds class is Rain Forest and Jungle! I really like this theme because I think Rain Forests and Jungles are so much fun. The biodiversities in each are similar as well as complexly unique. All the animals and plants are fun to discover and explore. I found a wonderful book called "The Umbrella" By Jan Brett. Its illustrations are fantastic and really give you an insight into what a rain forest may look like, plus the kids really liked it and wanted me to read it over and over again.
We finished the rain forest lesson of the day early and had some time to kill so on the spur of the moment I decided to have the kids make their own rain forest for the room! All it really was going to be was a big tree. I put up a blank outline of a tree and had the kids rip big sheets of green and brown paper apart for the tree bark and leaves. The kids has a blast ripping the paper apart and our tree turned out awesome! We dubbed it the tree of life because we are going to add pictures of plants and animals from the rain forest to it. I am sad that I won't be able see the unit through because I will only be with the kids for 2 days this week since I had prior sub jobs scheduled.
