As I start this new blog I am awaiting the season finale of Project Runway Season 4. The one show that can erase all sorrows from my life, if only for an hour once a week.
Anyways back to the blog. A close friend inspired me to keep a blog of the things that really matter in my life, my students. I may not have my very own class, yet, but I do have students. All the kids who say hi to me in the hall, the kids who throw a mini celebration when they find out I am their substitute, the kids whose parents come up to me and tell me how much their kids love me, the kids who can't walk past me without giving me a hug or a high-five, those kids who can always make smile are my students. I may only be a substitute teacher but I have a class that any teacher would envy.
So how about a little background about little old me! I named my blog "Use In Place Of" because that is a synonym for substitute, which is what I do. I don't mind being a substitute teacher but I am ready to be a real teacher, it's just that the fates aren't ready for me to have my own class. I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in December 2007 and also received my teacher certification early childhood through grade 4. Since graduation I have been on at least a dozen interviews, and unfortunately none of them panned out. I am still waiting, semi-patiently. However with each rejection, I am not going to lie, a small piece of me does die. I have subbed 31 times/days as off today, and 31 times I have been reassured that being a teacher is what I am meant to do. Now if someone would just let me do it.
So my students do and say the funniest things and I hope to share these "magical" moments with all of you. If I am lucky you will leave my blog with the same goofy smile I have at the end of each day that I sub. So please enjoy my blog!
On a side note I have another interview tomorrow for a 3rd grade long term sub job for a teacher going out on maternity leave. Fingers crossed!

I love it! And you ARE meant to be a teacher. Just remind yourself how much those kids love you who only get to see you because you aren't hiding in your very own classroom.
